Chiropractic Myth #5: Spinal Adjustments Are Dangerous

Chiropractic adjustments are safe when performed by a Doctor of Chiropractic, but can be

dangerous when performed by another healthcare professional that is less trained in the area of expertise.  It has been shown that Chiropractic adjustments are among the safest and most effective ways to treat back and neck pain.  Conservative spinal manipulations should be pursued in most cases before considering drug and surgical intervention.

Did you know that we will take drugs that are ranked #3 for caused deaths in the US, but we will believe the first thing we see on the internet about how Chiropractic is dangerous?  “Did you know that the amount of people that die from taking prescription drugs is equivalent to six (6) jumbo jets crashing each day?  To put this for face value, remember Sept. 11th, 2001?  The total people who had died throughout the whole event were 2,996 people.  To equivalent to the amount of deaths listed below, we would have roughly 261 Sept. 11ths each year from the deaths caused by prescription drugs.”  (1)

The result of injury following a chiropractic treatment is less than 0.01% according to medical studies.  This compares with a much higher risk of invasive procedures involving injections, medications, and surgeries. Some people fear they will have a stroke if their neck is adjusted; the truth is there is no scientific evidence to show an increase risk of any serious event following a chiropractic adjustment.  “There are some who suggest that the chance of having a stroke after a spinal manipulation is about 1 in 1,000,000.  This number has never been scientifically proven it is only estimated, but it shows that you have a better chance of being struck by lightening, being killed on a bicycle and dying from taking aspirin then by being seriously injured by chiropractic care.”  (2)

Through all the scrutiny that Chiropractic has gone through, still proves it is the safest and most effective way to aid in one’s healthcare.  “Chiropractic has been around for 117 years and still to this day, 0 deaths just as 0 deaths also for vitamins.  Rather, we will follow a medical model for our healthcare that has around 783,936 deaths per year from medications…” (1)  Which one do you feel more confidence in?
